Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of United States. She is also the first female vice-president as well as the highest-ranking female official in the United States. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and campaigned for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
